South Tyrolean Knowhow for Rome

ATZWANGER and Ladurner build biogas plants for Italy's capital city

The two South Tyrolean companies - together with two other firms - were commissioned with the large-scale projects in Rome: the contract, worth around 180 million euros, includes the design, construction, one-year operational management and subsequent maintenance of two bio-waste fermentation plants. The AMA (Azienda Municipale Ambiente SpA), Rome's public utility company, intends to use them to close the organic waste cycle in the Italian capital.

We at ATZWANGER are responsible for the Cesano plant, which has a contract value of 84 million euros. The plan is to process and convert 100,000 tonnes of organic waste from the recycling collection each year into compost, i.e. fertiliser, and methane. The liquefied biomethane will then be used to fuel Rome's refuse collection vehicles.

Ladurner, on the other hand, is responsible for the Casal Selce plant. It will also have a capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year. Both bio-waste fermentation plants are expected to be operational by 2026.

Together with our partner Ladurner, we are focusing on innovative, already tried and tested technologies in Rome. Several successful projects in Italy have already confirmed the extensive expertise of our South Tyrolean entrepreneurs.
