Swiss energy giant Axpo expands into Italy

ATZWANGER is involved in the construction of three biogas plants in southern Italy

Axpo, the largest Swiss energy group, is entering the Italian biomethane market and we at ATZWANGER are on board!

Axpo began by acquiring a project for the fermentation of agricultural waste in Basilicata. The biogas produced there will be converted into biomethane (with a capacity of 500 m3/h) and fed into the grid. The plant will be built in Grottole, in the province of Matera, and should be completed by the end of 2025.

At the same time as negotiating the purchase, Axpo was also looking for a general contractor for the design and turnkey construction. A consortium led by ATZWANGER and including Elpo GmbH/Srl from Bruneck/Brunico, Wolf System GmbH/Srl from Freienfeld/Campo di Trens, BiHcon GmbH/Srl from Vahrn/Varna, AB Energy AG/Spa from Brescia and Barone Costruzioni from Circello was selected.

Another contract was signed in December 2024: Together with BiHcon, we at ATZWANGER were once again chosen as a partner for the technical planning and complete construction of two further biogas plants. They will be built in Sicily, one in Mazara del Vallo on the west coast and the other in Paternò near Catania.

Another step towards supporting the energy transition in Italy with innovative systems!
